For coaching sessions to be effective, you must be able to express everything to your coach. And without trust and integrity established, this would be quite difficult to do. This is why when looking for a coach, it is important that you find someone you are willing to confide in.
Finding a personal coach is not at all difficult; it’s finding the right one for you that may pose a challenge. A simple Google search will give you a list of established personal coaches, complete with their credentials and testimonials. Personal coaching is now very popular so coaches market their services through various means such as brochures, directories, and different forms of media.
However, I believe that recommendations from friends are the most reliable source. Look for friends who may have had experience in being coached and ask for their advice. After all, I’m sure you’d rather take your friend’s word than some stranger from an internet forum, right?
Who would you rather share you secrets with, an acquaintance or a friend that you know you can trust? Most, if not everyone would definitely choose the latter as it is easier and more sensible to convey personal things with someone you know and have confidence in. For a personal coaching course to be effective, I believe that this is the type of relationship one must have with his or her coach.
Coaching does not require you to share your deepest and darkest secrets with your mentor, but it is necessary that you open up to him in order for him to help you out. It would be meaningless if you just provide him with trivial information about yourself as your coach needs to know who you are to be able to help your progress as a person. Trust is vital in every relationship and the same can be said about one’s relationship with his or her coach.
